Horror Magazine Front Cover

Planning
The image I have selected below is similar to my poster design, as I believe the themes, macabre colour palette and composition was very effective. Although the main alteration I would have to make would be to centralise the main image. As after analysing examples of successful magazine covers the conventions state that the having the main image in the centre of the composition makes it the focal point of the cover.

Magazine Masthead
I have experimented with a number of different titles to see which will prove to be the most effective when it comes to creating my own front cover. I will wait and see the results of my audience feedback to help decide on the final title however I believe the title I will end up picking will be "Imperium". The word Imperium is the Latin translation for "Empire". The other two titles I had as options were "House" and  "Institute" (as shown below). I decided to go with the name "Imperium" with the bottom font (Porter Bold) as it is the most simplistic and professional looking combination for my magazine front cover. I also researched into a logo instead of a

Audience Feedback/Evaluation:
The main image was chosen due to its direct address to the audience of the magazine and the editing done to it using Photoshop. The black, white and red theme of the magazine in general follow the conventions of horror as well as the conventions of a magazine front cover. The masthead name and font both fit the style I was going for as a simplistic, modern design. (The main image and masthead are evaluated above) The puff was relatively simply to install as it was the last component I had to add, making it fit in with the rest of the magazine (in regards to the colour scheme, size and position) was very important to maintain the professional style I wanted to upkeep.

Self Assessment:
After reviewing my magazine cover and the level 4 assessment criteria, I believe after making alterations based on audience feedback my magazine front cover fits with the professional and simplistic style I initially wanted. Including a proficient use of IT skills along with following the conventions of a magazine cover.
